This is a heavy content website, with a lot of information, sections, and in several languages. Special mention to Chinese, because it was the main reason I developed a text->image substitution plugin for jQuery, in order to avoid too heavy font files, and improve the performance to the maximum. Also I’m pretty happy with the odometer-like counter in the homepage, which resulted the jQuery plugin jOdometer, as it was nothing similar yet. The application is under Ruby on Rails and Nginx/Mongrel, and it uses an asset controller to rotate subdomains and allow more parallel connections, as this application had a lot of HTTP requests. This improvements and the use of caching resulted in a fast application regardless of all its elements. Unfortunately the site changed now but you can still get an idea with the video.
